ISM to host AMIS Band Festival- Host Families Needed

ISM is pleased to host the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Honor Band Festival between the March 8th and 12th. AMIS is a by-audition orchestra of 86 students and the 2014 participants come from a mix of 17 different international schools in East and South East Asia. We are now looking for host families to support this event by housing the visiting students for 4 nights. Although March may still seem far away, we really would like to secure homes for these students before the February break so we have time to check relevant information to make sure pairs work for both hosts and visitors. More details of hosting responsibilities and a request form can be found in the following links:

Welcome back to another exciting year for the Arts at ISM. Having been inspired by various experiences over summer, teachers are back from the break and are now keen to see our talented students breath life into their ideas. The link below is a list of the major events the Fine Arts Office  supports throughout the year. (In addition, we support many curriculum-derived events and details of these will come throughout the year from the organising teachers.)

AMIS Delegates travel to festivals

The first Arts trip for 2013 left on Wednesday, with 10 students travelling to Beijing to take part in The Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Middle School orchestra and choir festivals.  Then next Wednesday 2 more students head for Yangon, Myanmar for the band festival. Each festival consists of 3 days of workshops, large group playing or singing, and a final concert on the Saturday night. The 12 students all gained their places at the festival by handing in audition tapes early last semester. The selection process is quite rigorous so the following students can justly feel proud of their achievement:

Moon Hwan (Kyle) Kim (8)

Seok Hyun (John) Ma (8)

Akira Sugata (8)

Mitsuki Sugata (7)

Anne Safran (8)

Akshay Sharathchandra (8)

Jin Young Cho (8)

Eve Coleman (8)

Isaiah Filio (8)

Sebastiano Matera (8)

Young Joo Lee (8)

AMIS MS Honor Mixed Choir: VISAS

Important notice: Parents of AMIS Mixed Honor Choir participants

As some of you are already aware, the Indian Embassy in Manila will only be processing a total of 40 visa applications per day.  Our travel agent tells us that the processing time for the AMIS MSHMC group will be 17 – 20 WORKING DAYS after the receipt of the whole group’s applications.

Ms. Hausman distributed visa application forms to your child yesterday.  I am asking your assistance in getting the process started as soon as possible by ensuring that the completed forms are returned to the Fine Arts Office by 12 noon on Monday, Dec. 5. We hope to have them checked and submitted by our travel agent on Monday afternoon, thus allowing us a very slim, but workable timeline to secure the visas before the group departs on January 18.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
