17th century writer Miguel Cervantes wrote the famous book Don Quixote. In this musical, Cervantes decides to tell Don Quixote’s story one last time before his manual script is burnt. The musical is therefore a play-within-a-play, where the plot jumps back and forth between Cervantes the story teller and the adventures of Don Quixote the ‘crazy’ knight. As Don Quixote and Sancho search of adventures, they end up fighting wind mills, fall for the beautiful Aldonza, overcomes bandits, are robbed and finally stands up to their arch enemy.
MAN OF LA MANCHA became one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history when it was first released , winning 5 Tony awards in 1966. Powerful, brutal, hilarious, and heartbreaking, MAN OF LA MANCHA celebrates the perseverance of a man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. Sure, he is a little crazy, but sometimes that is what is needed if we are to pursue our passions in life. The scores most famous and enduring number is “The Impossible Dream”

You will notice that all the costumes and set design have a distinctly Filipino style!
ISM’s Dance Company presents their final dances for the year on April 20th at 3:30pm in the FAT. This year’s theme is Dancing Through The Years. Expect to see a wide range of dance styles explored as students take on choreographing their own work. This is the penultimate day for G12 students at school so the company will also be dancing for the last time with the group. Tickets are not needed and it is free seating, so come support this celebration of dance!
The HS Finale Concert is on Tuesday, April 4th and starts at 5:30pm in the FAT. This is a celebration the semester’s work in all HS Music classes and also the last opportunity for our Grade 12 musicians to perform with their class. For many, music has been a strong part of their ISM identity and it is therefore often quite an emotional experience for them.
This year’s theme explores the concept of musical journeys, whether that be a cerebration of a physical journey, an exploration of a metaphorical journey, or simply the journey in one’s mind as they listen to music. So get your passport ready and be prepared to travel some wonderful places! Here is a list of the groups involved and pieces they will play ( this is not the actual performance order) :
IASAS Music Previews take place on February 13th and 15th in the AMR. Each student will present their solos and there will also be Octet performances. The group travels on March 1st to Jakarta. During the convention, they will be adjudicated as a solo and in their octets. There will also be a finale concert on Saturday 4th. I will update this post with a web link when this is made avaliable so you can follow details. Here is the program for this week’s previews so you can see who is performing and when:
ISM is pleased to host the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Honor Band Festival between the March 8th and 12th. AMIS is a by-audition orchestra of 86 students and the 2014 participants come from a mix of 17 different international schools in East and South East Asia. We are now looking for host families to support this event by housing the visiting students for 4 nights. Although March may still seem far away, we really would like to secure homes for these students before the February break so we have time to check relevant information to make sure pairs work for both hosts and visitors. More details of hosting responsibilities and a request form can be found in the following links:
It is time again for the Evening Concert Series and we have three wonderful evenings of music planned throughout November. Please note the change in date from the printed calendar for the Choir Concert. After the calendar was printed, we chatted with ES Music teachers and decided to include ES singers from the ISM Sing! group in the event for the first time! In addition, the ISM Staff choir will also present an item. This makes this a truly whole school event. Please mark your calendars with this year’s dates:
Once you have clicked on this link, you will be taken to the Google folder that contains folders label by the school year. Click on the year in which the event you want to watch took place and a list of video files will appear.

This year, IASAS Art/ Dance/ Drama/ Tech is hosted by ISKL. We have to spots avaliable for experienced tech students who are independent, proactive, and design focused. Here is the application for for these positions, which should be completed by November 4th:
